Welcome to the second annual TRAIL MIX - A Tillamook Forest Spring Clean-Up event inviting all trail users to come together for a fun day of trail work and stewardship in the Tillamook State Forest. Whether you’re a mountain biker, trail runner, hiker or equestrian, trail work veteran or first-timer, we welcome you!
TRAIL MIX is presented by Northwest Trail Alliance, Trailkeepers of Oregon, Daybreak Racing, Oregon Equestrian Trails (OET), Northwest Chapter (Hillsboro) and Oregon Timber Trail Alliance in a volunteer partnership with the Oregon Department of Forestry.
DATE: Saturday March 28, 2020
LOCATION: Gales Creek Campground on Hwy 6 (Wilson River Highway) near milepost 35.
TIME: Check-in opens at 9am. Safety meeting begins at 9:30am. Work from 10am-2pm.
SIGN-UP: You MUST fill out the sign-up form in the RSVP link prior to the work date. This is critical to our planning purposes.
WHAT TO BRING: Sturdy boots, work gloves, eye protection, long sleeved shirt, pants, rain gear if wet, hard hat or bike helmet (extra hard hats will be available if you don’t have one), drinking water and a lunch/snacks.
ALL TRAIL WORK TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED, but if you have your own hoe, Pulaski, shovel, and/or McLeod, please feel free to bring and use them if you'd like to.
TIMELINE: We will break up into small groups, each led by an experienced crew leader who will guide their work throughout the day on their trail section. Cleanup efforts including raking, drainage clearing and fixing minor tread issues along the Gales Creek, Storey Burn, and the Historic Hiking Loop trails.
NEW TO TRAIL WORK? NWTA's Trail Sustainability Institute's Trail School will be leading a small crew that will teach basic trail maintenance skills during the event. This is a great opportunity to give back while simultaneously learning a new skill. If interested please see related question on the sign-up form to join the crew, space is limited.
AFTER-PARTY! We will offer a chili dinner and craft beverages at the end of the work day back at Gales Creek Campground, along with great raffle prizes to give away, donated by event sponsors! Camping and an opportunity for a ride/run/hike the following day (Sunday, March 29th) is being planned, but will be highly dependent upon weather conditions. Expect an update regarding this option as we get closer to the work date!
